MonoRent Now Has Bots — Play Solo, Practice, or Fill a Room
Since launching MonoRent a couple of weeks ago, the most common problem was obvious — you'd register, open the lobby, and find it empty. No opponents, nothing to do, nowhere to go.
That's now fixed.
Bot Players Are Live
You can now add a bot to any room before starting a game. The host sees an "Add Bot" button in the pre-game waiting room — click it, a bot joins, and you're ready to play.
Bots are not dumb. They actually play the game:
- Buy properties — bots buy aggressively in the early game and more selectively as prices rise
- Build stars — once they complete a color set they start developing it evenly
- Handle jail — bots always try to roll doubles first, only paying the fine after three failed attempts
- Trade — bots will propose and accept trades when the value makes sense for them
- Mortgage and sell — when cash runs low, bots mortgage properties and sell stars to stay alive rather than folding immediately
They're not perfect — they won't outmaneuver a experienced player — but they play a complete, coherent game.
Why This Matters
MonoRent is a multiplayer game at heart and that won't change. But the bot update solves a real problem: you no longer need to coordinate schedules with friends just to experience the game.
Play a solo game to learn the board. Use bots to fill a 4-player room when only 2 friends are available. Practice trading before playing against real opponents.
What's Next
Bots are the foundation for a few things coming later — including persistent background games running in the lobby so there's always something happening when you visit.
As always, feedback welcome. If you find a bug or the bot does something obviously wrong, drop it in the bug report form or find me on r/monorent.
