How to Play Monopoly Online on Mono.rent
If you've been looking for a way to play Monopoly with friends online without downloading anything or paying for a subscription, mono.rent is worth a look. It's a free, browser-based Monopoly alternative that runs entirely online. Here's exactly how to get started.
Step 1 — Create an Account
Head to mono.rent and register with a username. No email verification, no lengthy setup. Pick a name and you're in.
Step 2 — Create a Room or Join One
Once you're in the lobby you'll see two options:
- Create Room — you become the host and choose the game mode
- Join an existing room — if a friend already created one, find it in the lobby and hit "Join"
There are three game modes to choose from:
- Speed — faster turns, shorter games, good for a quick session
- Classic — the full experience, can run an hour or more
- Extended — longer games with more depth
Step 3 — Invite Your Friends
Once your room is created, share the link with whoever you want to play with. They click it, join instantly, and when everyone is in, the host clicks Start Game.
Step 4 — Play
The board is a world map theme — instead of streets you're buying countries. Africa, Middle East, Europe, Asia, North America, South America and more. Each region works like a color group in classic Monopoly — own all countries in a region and you can start developing them.
Everything works in real time. Roll dice, buy properties, pay rent, draw cards, go to jail, negotiate trades — all synced instantly across all players.
There's an in-game chat on the right side so you can trash talk negotiate with other players without leaving the game.
Step 5 — Win
Last player standing wins. Bankrupt everyone else by owning regions, building up your properties, and collecting rent every time someone lands on your territory.
Mono.rent is free to play and works on any browser — no downloads, no installs. If you have friends you used to play Monopoly with and haven't found a good online version yet, give it a try.
